Solar charging kits, and wiring:

What Tools Will I Need to Connect up a Solar Charging Kit?

A pair of wire cutters and a standard screw driver are all that is required for the wiring.
A Stanley knife may be useful for stripping the sheath of the cable.
You will also have to consider how you are going to mount the panel and where to run the pair of cables from the solar panel to the charge controller.

What Are MC4 Connectors For?

These are sturdy, waterproof, high current connectors for use with solar panels and similar applications.
They are ideal for connecting multiple panels together to produce solar arrays.
For most of our customers' applications they are not needed and you can simply cut them off - for instance to connect the solar panel to a charge controller.

How do I Connect the Solar Panel to the Charge Controller?

You need to insert bare wire into the terminals of the Charge controller.
Consider some, or all of the following steps.

1) Cut the cable from the solar panel down to length. You may be able to use the spare cable to connect the charge controller to the battery. Be Careful not to cut to much off.
2) Strip about 1 cm, half an inch, of insulation off the end of the cable.
3) Insert the bare wire into the terminal and secure it in place, by tightening the screw.

How do I Connect the Charge Controller to the Battery?

For this you need some stout cable, similar to the cable that came with the panel. If you have any spare which you cut off panel's solar cables then this is perfect.
1) Strip the ends of the cable, to expose about 1cm of bare wire.
2) Insert these into the charge controller's battery output terminals and clamp in place by tightening the screw.
3) How you attach the other end of the cable to the battery will vary depending on type of battery terminals, and what connections are already in place.

Orders received before 6:00pm are despatched the following business day.
